personal digital assistant (PDA) is a handheld computer, also known as a palmtop computer. Newer PDAs also have both color screens and audio capabilities, enabling them to be used as mobile phones, (smartphones), web browsers, or portable media players. Many PDAs can access the Internet, intranets or extranets via Wi-Fi, or Wireless Wide-Area Networks (WWANs). Many PDAs employ touch screen technology

The use of PDA technology has been increasing exponentially at a dramatic rate since 2000. This includes Windows-based PDA devices, as well as Windows-based Pocket PC Smart phones. As far as 'killer applications' for marketing and sales, Customer Relationship Managmenet (CRM), Sales Force Automation (SFA), and Field Service systems have proven to be critical corporate applications for field sales, field service and marketing users.
